Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to visit the U.S.

June 21, 2008, 10:28
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will pay an official visit to the US at the invitation of US President George W Bush. The four day visit will start on June 23.

The PM’s visit will take place at a time when Viet Nam-US trade relations can only be described as thriving.

The two sides have exchanged many high-ranking delegations since they established diplomatic relations in 1995.

Viet Nam and the US issued two joint declarations talking up multi-faceted co-operation in 2005 and 2006. This is expected to unfold new opportunities between the two countries in many fields.

Trade turnover between the two sides increased to US$12 billion last year from $9.7 billion in 2006 and $7.8 billion in 2005.

And the US market has become Viet Nam’s biggest export market. The US has invested $5.5 billion in Viet Nam, ranking fifth among countries and territories with investment capital in the country.

More than 1000 US businesses are operating in Viet Nam.
